The Seniors Men’s Section is for golfers over 60 years of age. The section has over 200 members. Competitions are held fortnightly. These comprise of Medals, Stableford and Trophy competitions as well as Texas Scrambles and other competitions throughout the year, plus a full programme of friendly matches including mixed matches with the ladies. Knockout competitions are also held for singles and pairs through the summer and winter months.
We have a Seniors Committee which looks after the running of this very busy section which is chaired by the Senior’s Captain. I am both delighted and very proud to be in such a position that has had many esteemed holders in the past. It is both my and the committee’s aim to ensure all senior members and visitors enjoy their golf throughout the year and the section continues to thrive as an integral part of Ashley Wood.
We have 4 mixed competitions when we are joined by the Ladies Section, namely a spring and autumn Texas Scramble, the Summer Cup and the Colin Brown Cup.
Every year the Seniors hold an Open Competition in May which is a Bowmaker. In the past our Opens have been well supported by clubs from Dorset and neighbouring counties and we hope this may continue. The Open is detailed on our website and all senior players are eligible. Invitations are sent out early in the year to neighbouring clubs. Members of the Seniors Committee and section members act as officials.
A member of the Seniors Committee also arranges entries into Open competitions at other Clubs in the area.
In December we have our Christmas Turkey Trot, section AGM and lunch. This includes presentation of trophies and medals and also the cheque to a representative from the Captain’s Charity.
