The Ashley Wood Golf Club was founded in 1896 and has gone through many changes to reach the current stage where the course now provides an excellent challenge to players of all levels.
The course is beautifully located between Blandford and Wimborne and is rarely closed owing to poor weather conditions so much so that it was included in the top 10 winter weather courses in the UK by the National Club Golfer in December 2009.
The Ashley Wood Golf Club has always prided itself on its friendliness which continues to this day. Members, either new or established, have little difficulty in finding playing partners.
The club currently has over 400 male playing members including a number who are affiliated to the club through the Army Blandford Garrison Golfing Society with whom the club has had a close relationship for many years.
Members are able to play throughout the week with the exception of a period on Tuesday mornings which is reserved for Ladies.
The Seniors section of the club arranges competitions on alternative Mondays mornings when with any member over the age of 60 being welcome to join.
The main club competitions are held on a Saturday or Sunday with additional medal competitions being held on a Wednesday. These competitions take many forms to give a varied participation. A number of perpetual competitions are included in this mix being between April and October and are all played off the white medal tees. At other times members are able to play off the medal tees or if preferred off the yellow tees of the day.
Under the new CONGU rules competitions are also played in the Winter, weather permitting, using a specifically designated Winter Card off an approved course in accordance with R & A rules.
All members are actively encouraged to play in competitions.
The club also has a number of reciprocal arrangements whereby club members are able to play, by arrangement through the club professional, at a number of other courses for a nominal £1 fee. For more details click here.
