The final league match of the season for the Hardy A team.
A win was required to pip our opponents Lyme Regis to 2nd place and promotion.
The weather was atrocious, 50mph gusts and horizontal rain.
Things didn’t bode well for the team when due to a communication mix up and a no show from another, the team were faced with playing this decider with only 6 players.
Enter the fray, Al Makovecz and Dave Purver who happened to wander into the clubhouse. Both agreed to play and so after a reshuffle of the team we were off.
Max Cogdell lead the way and recorded a comfortable 4&3 win over his scratch opponent. Dan Brockway unfortunately lost the second match. Clem Woloszyn managed to secure a 2up victory and this was followed by Louis Fisher recording a 3&2 victory. Nick Blazier, who has been in great form for the team, lost, which was a bit of a surprise. Mick Boyle had a fantastic win 2up against his big hitting opponent.
So there we stood, 4-2 up with two matches out on the course, Al and Dave having to play off 10 handicap, a successful season riding on those two matches…
…Why did we ever worry, both Al Makovecz and Dave Purver managed to record 2up wins to give us a final winning score of 6-2.
Hardy A Captain Clem would like to thank all those that have played for Hardy A this year in both the League and Cup Matches, thank you for your support, time and company.
