Our Men's Scratch team played away at Sherborne GC today in the Stokes Salver 4 Foursomes in the morning and 8 singles in the afternoon The match saw Matt Walker make his debut for Ashley Wood GC after recently joining the club! After a 2-2 result in the morning Sherborne were holding a small advantage on a holes won basis Ashley Wood led with their big guns in the Singles, Head Pro Paul Jones and Matt Walker who both won their singles 4&3 and 7&6 respectively Dan Brockway fell just short against a tough opponent Then halves followed for Michael Collings-Carter and John Walbridge Gary Weldon managed to win on the 18th with a fine second shot to win 2up Max Cogdell put up a good fight against their lowest player missing out 4&2 This left Steve Sanger out on the course, needing to win the last hole to secure a half to ensure we went into the next round. A solid 8 iron onto the 18th Green followed by two putts from about 20 feet was good enough to win the hole after his opponent found the greenside bunker! Final Score - Sherborne 5.5 Ashley Wood 6.5 A great team performance against a very good Sherborne team with their course in good condition especially the greens which were running true and fast. Thanks to Sherborne for their hospitality throughout the day and the match was played in a great spirit. Our next opponents have yet to be decided!
