The Ashley Wood Hardy B team had the opportunity to entertain Bridport with the weather finally getting better but a tad windy.
Dave Steward (Team Captain) and Tony Braithwaite got the match underway and after a tight match came out on top winning on the 18th by 2 holes.
Next up was Karl Pritchard and Andy Smart and after a good previous season, Karl was partnered with new member Andy who excelled in the warm up match a couple of weeks previous, unfortunately they came up against 2 tough cookies and went down 3&2.
Next out was Mark Spencer and Tosh another new face to the team. Spence was his usual jovial self and they both went about their business and were up in their match most of the way round but a couple of wayward shots late in the round put them on the back foot and they went down 2&1.
Fourth Up was new boys Colyn Horn and Brett Townsend who both went out a strong winning intent and this they did by 5&4.
Last match out was Dave Purver and Alan Makovezc both fresh from scoring well in the club comp the week before, Sadly for them they too came up against 2 tough opponents with away team captain Ian Thacker and partner beating our tailenders 4&2.
That said the team went down fighting losing 3-2.
There was a lot of high spirit among the squad and they are looking forward to the league fixtures in the coming months.
Finally we were rewarded with a first class meal of Steak & Ale pie and Crumble for desert which was well received from both teams. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who helped Dave as his first match as captain and the Green staff for a well presented course after a difficult winter and hope Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club went away having enjoyed the course and having been well fed!
